About the EMI Calculator

An equated monthly instalment keeps the payment fixed while the split between interest and principal shifts over time — early payments are mostly interest, later ones mostly principal. Seeing the total interest figure next to the monthly number is usually more revealing than the EMI itself: stretching a loan by a few years lowers the monthly payment but can add a very large amount to what you finally pay. Use the tenure field to compare options before you commit.

Please note: this is an educational estimator. It does not account for processing fees, insurance bundling, prepayment penalties, floating-rate resets or local tax rules, so the figure on a real agreement will differ. Use it to compare options, then confirm with your lender or a licensed financial adviser. Full disclaimer.

Frequently asked questions

How is EMI calculated?

Using the standard formula P × r × (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is principal, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of months.

Does a longer tenure reduce my EMI?

Yes, but it increases total interest. Compare a shorter and longer tenure here and look at the total interest line, not just the monthly figure.

Does this work for home, car and personal loans?

Yes. The maths is the same for any reducing-balance loan — only the rate and tenure differ.

What exactly is an EMI?

An equated monthly installment — the same amount every month covering both interest and principal, with the interest share largest at the start. The calculator shows total interest alongside the monthly installment, which is the number that reveals what the loan really costs.
