About the Tip Calculator
Splitting a restaurant bill at the table is where mental arithmetic usually fails, especially when the tip is a percentage and the group is an odd number. This tool gives the per-person figure directly, and lets you round the total up so nobody is chasing small change. Nothing is stored, and it works offline once the page has loaded.
Please note: this is an educational estimator. It does not account for processing fees, insurance bundling, prepayment penalties, floating-rate resets or local tax rules, so the figure on a real agreement will differ. Use it to compare options, then confirm with your lender or a licensed financial adviser. Full disclaimer.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
It varies by country — 15–20% is common in the US, while in many countries service is included and rounding up is enough.
Should the tip be calculated before or after tax?
Either is accepted; tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is the stricter convention. Enter whichever base you prefer.
Can I split unevenly?
This tool splits evenly. For uneven shares, calculate the total here and divide it manually.
