Favicon Generator

Turn a logo — or just a letter or two — into a genuine multi-resolution favicon.ico plus all the PNG sizes modern browsers and phones ask for, along with the exact HTML to paste into your head.

How to use the Favicon Generator

  1. Choose whether to build from an uploaded image or from one or two letters, and pick a background shape.
  2. Upload a square logo — 512×512 works best — or type your letters and choose the colours.
  3. Download favicon.ico for the classic sizes, grab the individual PNGs you need, and copy the HTML block into the head of your site.

About the Favicon Generator

A favicon is no longer one file. Browsers still ask for /favicon.ico, iOS wants a 180-pixel apple-touch-icon for the home screen, Android reads 192 and 512 pixel PNGs out of the web manifest, and browser tabs use 16 and 32. The .ico produced here is a real multi-image ICO containing 16, 32 and 48 pixel versions, not a PNG with the extension changed — which matters, because some older browsers reject a renamed file. If you do not have a logo yet, the letter mode makes a clean monogram on a solid, rounded or circular background, which is enough to look deliberate rather than generic while you design something better. Every image is rendered on a canvas in your browser, so your artwork is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a favicon be?

Supply several: 16 and 32 pixels for tabs, 48 inside the .ico, 180 for the iOS home screen, and 192 and 512 for Android and the web manifest. Start from one square image of 512 pixels and the rest are generated from it.

Is this a real .ico file?

Yes. It is a genuine multi-image ICO containing 16, 32 and 48 pixel entries, written byte by byte in your browser — not a PNG renamed with an .ico extension.

Where do I put the favicon files?

In the root folder of your site, next to index.html, then paste the provided link tags into your head. Browsers cache favicons aggressively, so force-refresh or open a private window to see a change.

Can I make a favicon without a logo?

Yes. Switch to letter mode, type one or two initials, and pick a background and text colour. It renders a clean monogram at every size.
