Add a Watermark to an Image

Stamp your name, your business or a copyright line across a photo. Position it in a corner or tile it across the whole image, set the opacity so it protects without ruining the picture, and download at full resolution.

How to use the Add a Watermark to an Image

  1. Drop in the photo you want to protect.
  2. Type your watermark text, then set the position, colour, size, opacity and rotation. Choose 'Tiled' to repeat it across the whole image.
  3. Check the live preview and download as PNG for maximum quality or JPG for a smaller file.

About the Add a Watermark to an Image

A watermark is a deterrent rather than a lock, and how you place it decides how well it works. A small mark in one corner is easy to crop away; a tiled, semi-transparent mark across the middle is far harder to remove without visibly damaging the image, which is why stock libraries use it on their previews. Opacity is the trade-off: too faint and it can be painted out, too strong and nobody wants to look at the photo. Somewhere around 35–50% over a busy image is usually the sweet spot, and the soft shadow option keeps light text legible over a light background. The image is drawn to a canvas at its original pixel dimensions, so the download is full quality, and — unlike most free watermarking sites — nothing of ours is added to your picture.

Frequently asked questions

How do I watermark a photo with my name for free?

Upload the photo above, type your name in the watermark text field, pick a corner or tiling, and download. There is no account, no limit and no extra logo added to the result.

Does the watermark stop people stealing my photo?

It makes casual reuse obvious and inconvenient, especially if it is tiled across the image. A determined editor can still remove a mark, so for valuable work also keep the original file and any proof of authorship.

Will it reduce the resolution of my image?

No. The photo is drawn at its original pixel size and the text is scaled relative to that, so the download has the same dimensions as the file you started with.

Can I put a logo image instead of text?

This tool stamps text. To add a logo, put the logo on the photo yourself and use the Image Cropper and Image Resizer here to size it first, or use text set to your brand name as a quick alternative.
